find your joy

Our sessions have three goals

  • tension release

Each session will consist of body-based and mindfulness practices to not only help release stress and tension held in the body but to teach you strategies that you can use in your day-to-day life. By the end of every session, you should feel as if you have created space, both within your body and mind, and you should have experienced moments of relaxation and peace along with whatever challenge we are working through. We will invest time and energy to highlight your strengths, your supports, your community, and what brings you clarity, stability, and ultimately, joy.

  • resilience building

Life has challenges. We experience difficulty, trauma, grief, stress, feelings of being lost, heartbroken, anxious, confused, angry, and many, many others. Our sessions are not designed to make these experiences and feelings go away. Instead, the goal is to create moments of peace and release to allow your mind and body a break from what you are carrying, and to learn how to hold feelings of safety, stability, love, and peace along with all of the uncomfortable and challenging feelings as well. Through this practice, we build resilience, so you have the confidence to not only overcome the challenge you are currently facing, but also face future challenges without becoming overwhelmed.

  • focusing on today

Unlike traditional talk therapy, our sessions will not take a deep dive into your past. There is value in doing this and our sessions are not meant to take the place of talk therapy if this is something to support your journey. We, however, will be focusing on today, this moment, right now—what you are feeling and carrying as we sit together. We will talk about what current challenges you are facing so I can support you best, but we will be directing our time and energy in what you are feeling, where you are feeling it within your body, and what we can do to help you release what can be let go and carry the rest alongside your strengths.

how to book a session

  • Contact me to book an intro session. All of my sessions currently are virtual.

  • The intro session will consist of me asking some questions to get an idea of your current challenges and goals, as well as practicing a mindfulness and tension release exercise.

  • If you are inquiring about a couples session or a group, we will go through what your goals are together, so I will ask all of those interested in the sessions be present.

  • I recommend writing down any questions you may have prior to the session so you have them ready to ask away!

  • At the end of the intro session, we will talk about session packages (more info below in FAQS)

FAQs

what is a somatic informed practice?

Soma means “body.” A somatic practice is one where we focus time, energy and intention on being “in your body.” So often we live in our thoughts, and yes, those thoughts are entwined with how our body feels, but it is possible, and in many cases, very helpful, to separate the two. In this way, we gain information as to when we have triggers, what we may be feeling, what we may be holding, and even being able to release that tension held in our body.

how does it work?

The idea is that we hold tension, stress, and trauma in our body. Oftentimes we don’t even know it’s there, especially if it has been there for years, but if we take the time to focus on our body, we can discover places that feel tense, coiled, unwell, stiff, or uneasy. We also find places that feel safe, warm, comforting, loving, and secure. We work together to anchor into the places that feel safe, while we address the areas that are holding the difficult feelings. We do this in small steps, little by little, until you can hold both the challenges and security together. We practice mindfulness techniques to help feel stability in your body while also exploring free movement and tension and release exercises.

I aim for you to feel both more relaxed and more resilient at the end of our sessions together.

why did you move away from talk therapy?

I do find tremendous value in talk therapy and have seen many, many people I have worked with make wonderful progress through that process. However, I found that as I taught social emotional learning to children, I tended to start with the body. Being able to be in touch with the body and learn how to decipher what the body can tell us is incredibly powerful. I personally find I can trust my body much more than I can trust my thoughts. When I am in doubt, when I am confused, or emotionally heightened, I go to my body and I always find a way.

What is a couples session?

I work both with individuals and couples (as well as groups). A couples session can be with significant others in a romantic relationship, friends, family members, coworkers, really anyone you want to walk this journey alongside. If you have a current conflict with someone, our sessions will not focus on solving the problem through talking, instead we will learn the relaxation and tension release practices together, breathe together, and create space within us to hold the conflict or release it.

Otherwise, our goal in the couple sessions is to support and to be able to help each other integrate the practices outside of our sessions. You will learn about each other, what you both hold, and how you both can move forward together.

For all couples and group sessions, I recommend people you are very comfortable with, as sessions can be vulnerable. I also will be encouraging you to move your body however it wants to, which can feel surprising to people who may not have allowed this freedom before. Trembling, swaying, dance-like movements, voiced sounds, and more might happen!

why do you book session packages and not session by session?

After the intro session, there are 6 and 10 week session packages. This is a journey. One that requires both of us to make an investment; investing time and energy and intention into healing, discovery, learning, overcoming challenges, and celebrating triumphs. I am committing to you and you are committing to a number of sessions to see this journey through.

I believe after a 6 or 10 week session package, you should notice change. If the change is one you want to keep exploring, we can do another 6 or 10 week session package, and so forth, but the key is to ensure you are experiencing growth along the way.
